Dispensary Text Messaging Service

From 1st May 2019 the practice intends to launch a new text messaging service for dispensing patients.  This will allow our Dispensing Team to notify you of when your repeat medication is ready for collection or whether there is a query with your repeat medication request which we need to discuss with you saving you from unnecessary journeys to the practice or unnecessarily long waits in the Dispensary queue.

If you collect your repeat medication from the practice dispensary and would like to receive notifications of when it is ready for collection please complete the SMS Consent form online or complete a consent form next time you're in the surgery.

If you already receive SMS Appointment Reminders then there is no need to complete another consent form.

NHS Prescription Fee

Please be aware that the NHS Prescription fee will rise to £9.00 from the 1st April 2019.

Appointments

To make an appointment you can use one of our following services:

When you contact the surgery to make an appointment you will be asked to give an indication of your problem. This helps our reception team ensure that you are given an appointment with the most appropriate clinician.

It is not always necessary to see a GP and sometimes it may be better for you to see one of our other healthcare professionals.

We encourage patients to make routine appointments with their registered GP as this we find helps us provide patients with a better continuity of care.

We accept that it is not always convenient to see your registered GP and therefore patients are able to book appointments with any of our GP Team in this instance.

Please note that all calls to the practice are recorded to ensure safety and quality & may be used for training purposes.

Appointment Reason

When making your appointment you may find that the receptionist will ask you for a brief reason for your appointment.

This is so that your appointment is booked appropriately.

Some conditions or problems need longer than others and some conditions or problems are dealt with by specific clinicians.

This is particularly important when making an appointment to see the practice nurse,  phlebotomist and nurse practitioner.

You can give personal as your appointment reason but please bear in mind that we ask for a reason to help you get the best care from your clinician.

All staff are bound by the confidentiality act, including receptionists.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. Every month there are approximately 150 appointments which are not kept. This equates to a whole week of GP time which is lost every month.

Urgent Appointments

Urgent cases are seen on the day, however, if you want to see a specific Doctor you may have to wait longer than normal. Urgent cases are those that require attention by a doctor on the same day, and cannot otherwise wait for a routine appointment.

Please note that the on-call doctor is dealing with serious medical complaints, and misusing this service could endanger other patients who are in need of a prompt consultation.

Patients on repeat prescriptions or those requiring ongoing services (i.e. continual contraception) should pre-plan and arrange to see the doctor in a routine clinic. Please note that a trained nurse can assess and issue repeat contraceptive prescriptions at the treatment room reception.

Telephone Advice

If you feel an appointment is not necessary but would like to speak to your own doctor or the doctor on call, please leave a message with a member of Reception and your call will be returned as soon as is feasible.
