Following a consultation with your GP Practice, you will be referred for the procedure. At the Deepings Practice all our vasectomy procedures are classed as 'non-scalpel' vasectomies.
The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes. The surgeon will conduct a short consultation beforehand to ask a few questions about your health and to ensure you have read and understood the leaflet that was sent with your appointment letter.
You can eat and drink normally on the day. However, you will need to arrange transport home and to rest fully on the day of the procedure.
Confirmation of a successful vasectomy is determined by submitting a sample 16 weeks after the procedure. A semen sample is examined under a microscope and if the specimen is clear, you will be advised in writing. Occasionally, if live sperm are seen, an additional semen sample may be required.
